“Fylja” by pixlpa x Phantom
In Norse mythology, Fylja arę supernatural companion (often animal) spirits that represent one's inner nature and fate. This generative, experimental video work is a dynamic exploration of form and motion, capturing a spectral figure as it tumbles through an ever-evolving digital field. Fylja is materially rooted in the idea of accumulated feedback - where past images are developed through the present and future, creating a relentlessly overlapping, layered tapestry. The heavily structured rhythms of zooms, scrolls, and blocks of color are distorted by the flowing organic figure as it dances across the screen. Through Fylja, I highlight the tension between structure and chaos, inviting viewers to reflect on the constantly shifting digital environments that we inhabit through representations, avatars that leave traces and shift the course through the algorithmic timeline alongside our own presence IRL.
